When the surgeon sliced my forehead open today he entered surgical history. He found a third-eye looking back at him – it winked at the nurse. She screamed and ran out of theater. But the old man was pressed for time and so, without a second thought, he slid his scalpel into it and scooped it out like a snail from its shell – out of my forehead. Then he sewed the opening closed with three neat sutures… The bump on my head has gone.
It first appeared following an impact with the dark lord on the Esperanza in 2005. A bump came up on the left side of my forehead, the size of an egg, then it went down. But then, it started to GROW. The surgeon said that it would have continued to grow, perhaps in time it would have developed more than an eye. It would have grown teeth, a digestive system, even a personality. It was taken out under local anesthetic and I was able to feel the tugging, scraping, and of course I heard the screaming… There will be a scar, but there will be no mini-me.
